Several pupils attended Computer Club every Thursday after school during the 2014-2015 academic year. Sixteen of those pupils, under the guidance of Ms. Kathleen Tuohy, took part in a Scratch Computer Programming Course. On June 24th Deputy-Principal, Ms. Anne Marie Barry presented thirteen of those pupils from 4th and 5th Classes with Scratch Certificates which were issued by ICS Skills, (the trading name of ECDL Ireland Ltd.) Three of the pupils, Adam, Conor and Freya will receive their Certificates by post as they were in Sixth Class and have now moved on from Shanbally NS. Special credit is due to these three pupils as Sixth Class is a particularly busy class and they managed to find time for Computer Club also. Ms. Barry acknowledged the commitment of all the Computer Club members, who were willing to pursue their interest in I.T. and spend an extra hour at school, every week.
ICS Skills is the certification body of the Irish Computer Society, so we congratulate these diligent, motivated pupils on receiving such a well-recognised certificate at such a young age. While they had good fun at the Computer Club every week, they also worked hard and were very motivated to learn and to help each other when learning new Computer Skills. We hope that this enthusiasm will continue in the future and, who knows, we may have the next Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates right here in Shanbally NS !!

To quote Bill Gates of Microsoft:
“Learning to write programs stretches your mind, and helps you think better, creates a way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains.”
